Imagine a room with soft light, a garden view, and a blank canvas (or an empty wheel) in front of you. There are sweet treats made by a neighbor, the voices of new and old friends, and all the supplies you need at your fingertips. You have time, inspiration, and support. Best of all, you can make whatever you want.

To many of you this is a familiar scene. It is our studio, and all are welcome. Together with our community, Middlebury Studio School has imagined and created a space where artists of all abilities can learn and thrive. Through quality arts education programming, we encourage students of all ages to cultivate their own imagination and develop the skills to express it. In doing so we aim to empower our students with a creative voice that serves them in all aspects of their lives.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, MSS relies on support from donors like you to make these empowering experiences accessible to everyone in our community.

This year our tuition free and reduced cost programming included a full year of classes for participants from the Parent Child Center, classes for Scout troops and clients of CSAC, after school programs in local schools, free family events, and scholarships for all ages. Meanwhile, we have deepened our relationships with partners like Middlebury Community Music Center, Town Hall Theater, Middlebury College, and Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op through new and existing programs that inspire our next generation and feed our community. If you want to see the beauty produced by the imagination of our artists with your own eyes, look no further than the Jackson Gallery at Town Hall Theater, where our exhibition of student and instructor work “Learning Together” will be on display until December 22nd.

As we grow as an organization, MSS has been doing some imagining of our own.

We are in the early stages of planning for an expansion of our space to accommodate the wonderful excitement around our programs.

As we begin this process, we seek the input of our community of artists and donors, and look forward to creating a new space in partnership with each of you. Together we can fill in the blank canvas in front of us to create something lasting and beautiful.

Imagine a child holding up a painting with pride, friends of forty years sharing critiques and a laugh, a new mother at the wheel gaining confidence with the clay and with herself, and imagine yourself being the one who made it possible.

Please give generously today.

Thank you,
