Alternative Firing Workshop

Join Bob Green, for this exciting pottery workshop to explore a variety of alternative firing techniques. These include raku, naked raku, saggar & horse hair firing. Take your pottery to a new level while you experiment with applying terra sigillata and burnishing. Learn about age-old Japanese and Native American firing & glazing methods and discover the beauty and magic of this process. Students will bring their own greenware & bisque-ware; a list of other materials to bring is below.

Students will need to bring their own pieces for terra sigillata & firings & some materials.

Pizza & Pottery Date Night: Wheel Throwing

Instructor: MSS Staff
Friday, 5-7:30PM
Tuition: $95
Location: Clay Studio

Enjoy a pizza & clay date night at the studio! Start out with some wood-fired pizza from our on-site pizza oven. Next, get your hands in some clay as an Instructor guides you through the process of wheel throwing. Couples will explore this captivating medium and learn about wheel throwing while spending some quality time together. Learn about centering, shaping, and the process of making a pot on a wheel. Create memories and possibly some masterpieces to treasure in this 1-night class! Clay will be provided and each participant will be able to fire 1 piece which will be glazed by a staff member. All levels/no experience required.

BYOB/Ages 21+

Tuition includes registration for 2 people which covers the cost of pizza & firing 2 pieces. Please provide the name of the other participant when registering.

Gluten Free pizza is available upon request. Please contact us at info@middleburystudioschool.org with any gluten free requests prior to the event.

Monday Evening Wheel

Mondays, 6-8:30PM
Location: Clay Studio

This class is for students of all skill levels. For beginners the focus is on basic skills. Students who have mastered centering will be challenged with projects that match their interests. We will all stretch and grow no matter where we begin! All levels/Teens welcome

Students may purchase clay at the start of class. It is recommended that students bring their own aprons for class. Aprons are available at the studio for students who are unable to provide their own.

Thursday Morning Wheel

Thursdays, 10 AM-12:30PM

Location: Clay Studio

This wheel class will focus on improving skills as needed for each student to grow in their abilities. We will cover centering, pulling up, shaping, trimming, surface treatment before bisquing and glazing after. Gaining confidence in the basics allows for self exploration in specific areas: rims, feet, lids, handles, spouts, altering, throwing larger and generally challenging yourself. Historic and contemporary pottery will be our inspiration. Join us for a fun class! All levels

Thursday Evening Wheel

Instructor: Saisorn Peemanao
Thursdays, 6-8:30 PM
Tuition: $315
Location: Clay Studio

This class will focus on making functional pottery using the potter’s wheel. Students will learn how to make bowls, cups, and plates. Several altering techniques will be demonstrated for making oval, square, and irregular forms in addition to round pots. Appendages such as handles, feet, and spouts will be considered in relation to form and function. Clay can be purchased at the beginning of class. All levels/Teens welcome

We have classes that are suitable for beginners and more experienced artists and potters. There are two comfortable studio spaces at the main building and an offsite painting studio. We encourage all students to go at their own pace in a relaxed environment.

Gift Certificates: Gift certificates are available to purchase. To use a gift certificate, please get in touch. We can tailor your gift to suit you.  

Open Studio is for currently enrolled clay students, and monthly independent study. Independent Study students are invited to sign up on a monthly basis.

Credit cards are accepted when registering at middleburystudioschool.corsizio.com. Payments can also be made by cash or check. Checks should be made out to the Middlebury Studio School and mailed or delivered to the Middlebury Studio School, 2377 Rte. 7, Middlebury, VT 05753. Please pay promptly to guarantee your space.

Refund Policy: No refunds given for student cancellations less than 7 days from start of class.
