About Us

Combining art and education since 2009

Middlebury Studio School is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization.

Our Mission

To promote the creative process and community through art and craft education for people of all ages and abilities.

Our Vision

MSS aims to be an educational resource for everyone seeking access to learning through the visual arts. We aspire to be a cultural hub that artists, learners, locals, and visitors to Addison County alike seek out for excellent art instruction and creative community. We aim to create and maintain a sustainable financial model and physical space which has the capacity to accommodate the breadth of programs in demand in our community. We envision a welcoming community in which there are no barriers to artmaking, artists are supported in their work, and people commune to share ideas and be inspired.

At MSS, We Value…

LEARNING AND THE CREATIVE PROCESS
As an organization dedicated to art education, we value experiences that grow students’ artistic toolkits by providing instruction, skills, inspiration, and a lifelong love for the arts. We believe in the process of thinking creatively to generate original ideas and we value spaces where students can make mistakes, play, and learn from each other.

JOY AND WELLBEING
We are passionate about bringing joy to our community through art. We strive to create safe spaces where the delight and gratification of crafting can be enjoyed in comradery with others. We believe art can be healing, enriching, and fun!

 EQUITY AND INCLUSION
It is important to us that our studios are welcoming and accessible to all. We do not tolerate any forms of discrimination, and we strive to create policies and environments that are inclusive. We continually work to improve the physical accessibility of our facilities, and we believe that classes should be available to people of all socioeconomic backgrounds.

COMMUNITY BUILDING
We aim to strengthen and enrich our community, both in and out of the studio. We value classroom environments which foster understanding, creative exchange, and collaboration. Outside of the studio, we value partnerships with local schools and organizations to work collectively to address the needs of our community.

RESPECT FOR OUR RESOURCES
We value the financial, human, and natural resources that make our work possible, and hold ourselves accountable for their responsible management. We value every dollar donated to the school, and with respect to our supporters we spend money where it is needed most and with great care. We are grateful for the time and skill of our artist instructors and believe in balancing the affordability of our classes with fair pay for staff and teachers.
