Kids Clay Classes

NEW! Pizza & Pottery: Multi-Age Hand Building

Instructor: Kristi Tolgyesi
Thursday, 5-7PM
Tuition: $35
Location: Clay Studio

Join us on a summer evening for a fun night of Pizza & Pottery! Start out with some wood-fired pizza from our on-site pizza oven. Next, get your hands in some clay as an instructor guides you through a hand-building project. Enjoy a demonstration for a specific project, but feel free to get creative with your own ideas while learning some key hand building techniques. This is a great class to take with family members or friends.  All levels/Ages 5 and up. 

Please note: this is an outdoor event, under the tent (weather permitting).

Each person attending this event must register separately. The tuition covers the cost of pizza & the clay class and firing 1 piece per student.

Gluten Free pizza is available upon request. Please contact us at info@middleburystudioschool.org with any gluten free requests prior to the event.

NEW! 3 Days of Clay! Multi-Age Wheel

Instructor: MSS Staff
Tuesday-Thursday, 3-4:30PM
Tuition: $100
Location: Clay Studio

Enjoy some creative time in the studio in a 3-day wheel workshop! This class will focus on the fundamentals of making pottery on the wheel, from creating the form to putting some finishing touches on pieces. Students will be able to paint and decorate their work with colored slips, and a staff member will glaze and fire pieces. Anyone who already knows the basics of the wheel may continue at their own pace. This is a great class to take with family members or friends. Clay & materials provided/All levels/Ages 8 and up. 

Adults are welcome to join this class, but must register for the session to participate and use clay. Adults who will attend only to supervise do not have to register.

A new monthly open studio membership for highschool age aspiring and practicing fine artists creating two dimensional work.
During open studio times, participants will have access to studio art supplies across a wide variety of media to work on self led creative projects.
There will be available guidance and support by MSS staff.

Jump Into Oil Painting!

Instructor: Katalin Tolgyesi 
Monday-Wednesday 9:30AM-11:30PM
Tuition: $130
Location: Marbleworks

 

This is a 3-day painting workshop especially for teens! Students will work with artist and instructor Katalin Tolgyesi as they dive into mastering portraiture through the oil paint medium! Students will choose reference photos, transfer outlines to canvas, block in the values, and study the lighting in the reference. Key elements will be covered in learning to mix values, tones, highlights, then how to add subtle value and color variations to make a portrait or any subject come to life.

Katalin will guide students through overcoming some of the most common mistakes made by beginner painters and break down the process of completing a work into easy-to-understand phases. Students will leave with a finished artwork, an understanding of the oil painting process, and specific skills they can transfer to future projects. All levels/Ages 13-17

NEW! Intro to Fashion Design for Teens

Instructor: Mira Cabrera

This course aims to provide a fun and engaging introduction to fashion design, inspiring young designers to explore their creativity and develop new skills while drawing and painting a fashion rendering. Students will explore visual language, draw the human figure, and learn to communicate fabric choices through watercolor painting. This course will appeal to budding fashion designers or anyone interested in exploring the creative process in a fresh and exciting format. No prior experience in drawing or painting is necessary.
All levels/Ages 13-18

NEW! After School Art – Paint What You Love!

Instructor: Carrie Ade
Tuesdays 3:30-5PM

In this three week after school class, children will have the freedom to explore, experiment, and test the limits while they paint what they love! Students will go more in depth each week as they develop skills, and most importantly discover that the real artistic magic begins to unfold when they hone in on what makes a painting interesting and the stories that can be told within!
In addition to learning the fundamental elements of creating a finished artwork and developing fluency and comfort with the painters tools, the class will focus on encouraging creativity and painting subjects that each student feels connected to. Each week students will be guided through their projects as they gain confidence and skill with paint while experiencing the challenges and joy of self expression through a visual medium!

NEW! Creating Meaningful Art! Ages 11 -13

A new age range for our young artists who are leveling up! In this class students will push their work a little further as they dive into the essential elements of painting, focusing on not only the practical aspects of developing technique and executing their work, but also the deeper aspects of creating art with meaning. In addition to learning skills and gaining confidence with paint and combined mediums, the group will follow inquiries into composition and color theory, self expression, visual story telling and more! This class will be an exciting and encouraging environment, where students will have the freedom to push their creativity and continue to develop a passion for art making!
All levels/Ages 11-13

All of our classes are suitable for beginners and more experienced artists. There are two comfortable studio spaces at the main building and an offsite painting studio. We encourage all students to go at their own pace in a relaxed environment. It is best to wear clothes that you can get dirty for Kids Classes!

Gift Certificates: Gift certificates are available to purchase. To use a gift certificate, please get in touch. We can tailor your gift to suit you.  

Open Studio is for currently enrolled art, clay students, and monthly independent study. Independent Study students are invited to sign up on a monthly basis. Register with the school for a monthly fee of $100.00/month.

Credit cards are accepted when registering at middleburystudioschool.corsizio.com. Payments can also be made by cash or check. Checks should be made out to the Middlebury Studio School and mailed or delivered to the Middlebury Studio School, 2377 Rte. 7, Middlebury, VT 05753. Please pay promptly to guarantee your space.

Refund Policy: No refunds given for student cancellations less than 7 days from start of class.
