NEW! Sgraffito Workshop: Scratch the Surface

Instructor: Grace Moulton
Wednesday, 3-5:30PM
Tuition: $55
Location: Clay Studio

Sgraffito, a decorative technique, traces back to an Italian word meaning, ‘to scratch’. Go beyond scratching the surface to explore this fun method, combining color, contrast & carving. Start by applying some color with slips to a leather hard piece. Next, carve through the surface to reveal the color of the clay and create contrast. Let your creativity flow as you discover ways to add movement and flair to your pieces. Add lines & shapes, texture, or patterns. Create your own sense of style while taking your surface design skills to the next level. Adults/All levels, some experience with clay is helpful but not necessary.

Materials & leather hard tiles will be provided. Students may bring 1-2 leather hard pieces to experiment with-(flat pieces such as plates & tiles are recommended). Pieces will be fired and glazed with a clear glaze by a staff member.
