Handmade clay planter with textures bird design

NEW! Carve & Create: Blocks for Clay Textures

Instructors: Michaela Granstrom
Wednesdays, 1-3:30pm
Tuition: $130
Locations: 94 Court Street & Clay Studio

Explore surface design by carving custom blocks with block printing tools for making impressions in clay. Using a carved block in clay is a fantastic way to introduce texture, build repeating patterns, and streamline your creative process — all while expressing your individual style. You’ll be guided through each step, beginning with your design, transferring it to your block, and carving it out.

As you carve, you’ll test your block with ink on paper and make any needed refinements to achieve a crisp, defined relief for clay. Then, experiment with pressing your carved blocks into clay to discover how pattern, pressure, and placement can dramatically transform the surface. This versatile technique opens up endless possibilities for surface decoration, or creating signature motifs and invites you to explore new creative paths with pattern and texture. Make your mark – literally – and take your clay pieces to the next level! Materials Provided/All levels

Clay Tiles will be provided for using the blocks and students will have the option to hand build a box or planter with their textured tiles. Students will need to have their designs ready for the first class.

Each class will be held in a different location.
