Take your pieces to the next level while exploring the magical process of Raku firing! Experiment with decorating pots and learn about glazing, while participating in raku and pit firings. Learn each step of the process from loading & unloading to safety and the final exciting step of cleaning pieces to reveal their shine! Results for finished pieces can be unpredictable so expect the unexpected. Int/Adv

Students will need to bring: 4-5 pieces of their own bisqueware for raku made of high fire clay, cone 6-10 raku or white stoneware.

Matcha Tea Bowl Workshop

The matcha bowl, used in Japanese tea ceremonies is a simple form, yet there are key features to consider when making one. Start with a presentation of how to make Matcha tea for inspiration. A variety of examples of handmade bowls will be provided to help gain an understanding of the design for both aesthetics & functionality. Next, enjoy a throwing demonstration on the wheel while you’re guided through the process of creating a matcha bowl. Learn about the various elements that go into making one, while considering how these design elements may enhance the experience of using the bowl. Shape, size, width and weight of the bowl will be covered as you learn about both spiritual significance and functional aspects of this form. Next, you’ll create your own unique matcha bowl! Finishing steps (to be done after the workshop) such as trimming and glazing techniques will be discussed. 

Adults, Teens 16+, Advanced Beginner/Intermediate-should be able to center clay on the wheel consistently. Each participant will be able to keep 1-2 pieces and have access to open studio hours for trimming and glazing*

*Clay may be purchased for an additional $10 fee when registering online or at the workshop, which includes glazing & firing-all other tools/supplies are provided.

Adult Wheel Sampler

Have you ever wanted to try a wheel-throwing pottery class? This 1-day class is a great introduction to this magical medium. Experience using a wheel while getting your hands in some clay. Learn about centering, shaping, and the process of making a pot on a wheel. This class is suited for anyone who is interested in trying out the wheel before committing to a longer class.. Pieces made in this class will not be fired. This class is focused on practicing the process, so students will not take home a finished product. Adults/Teens 

Introductory/Beginner level but more experience is welcome.

Slab Vessels: Creating a Template

Explore the creative process of making a variety of hand built forms such as bowls, cups, mugs & vases. Learn how to create templates for slab built forms, while being guided through each step. Enjoy a demonstration of slab construction, while gaining an understanding of how to use templates and apply them to your own work. Participants will consider size, shape and proportion and leave the workshop with 1-2 templates to use for slab construction.

This workshop is focused on the design process, so students will not be building a form. Adv. Beginner-Intermediate, students should have some basic hand building experience. Adults/Teens 16+

Join Bob Green, for this exciting pottery workshop to explore a variety of alternative firing techniques. These include raku, naked raku, saggar & horse hair firing. Take your pottery to a new level while you experiment with applying terra sigillata and burnishing. Learn about age-old Japanese and Native American firing & glazing methods and discover the beauty and magic of this process. Students will bring their own greenware & bisque-ware; a list of other materials to bring will be provided. Adults/Intermediate & Advanced

NEW!  Mindfulness Flow on the Wheel

Bring more mindfulness to your pottery practice! We will begin the workshop with a meditation seated at the wheel, followed by free play. Enjoy being guided through an optional mindfulness exercise using clay, while you explore and experiment on the wheel. Throughout the class, suggestions will be made to “check in” with your position, posture and 5 senses. Working with clay can be therapeutic, as it requires one’s full concentration on the medium. Using mindfulness in a wheel practice can be beneficial in helping one to focus on the present moment and boost creative expression. Intermediate/Advanced*

*This workshop will be curated for the group, and will be open to anyone with some experience throwing on a potter’s wheel (students should be able to center the clay consistently). No experience with mindfulness is required. Adults/Teens 16+

As the focus will be on the process and a mindfulness practice, students will not keep or fire pieces created in the workshop

Thursday Evening Wheel

Thursdays, 6-8:30 PM
Location: Clay Studio

This class will focus on making functional pottery using the potter’s wheel. Students will learn how to make bowls, cups, and plates. Several altering techniques will be demonstrated for making oval, square, and irregular forms in addition to round pots. Appendages such as handles, feet, and spouts will be considered in relation to form and function. Clay can be purchased at the beginning of class. All levels/Teens 16+

We have classes that are suitable for beginners and more experienced artists and potters. There are two comfortable studio spaces at the main building and an offsite painting studio. We encourage all students to go at their own pace in a relaxed environment.

Gift Certificates: Gift certificates are available to purchase. To use a gift certificate, please get in touch. We can tailor your gift to suit you.  

Open Studio is for currently enrolled clay students, and monthly independent study. Independent Study students are invited to sign up on a monthly basis.
