NEW! Terracotta Planters: Multi-Age Workshop

Instructor: Jen Labie
Tuesday-Wednesday 3-5:30PM
Tuition: $90
Location: Clay Studio

Create your own beautiful terra cotta planters using slabs. Students can either make 1 large planter for flowers or a set of 2 small small planters for kitchen herbs. We will experiment with using natural textures, stamps and decorative coils to enhance pieces. Each planter will be a custom designed piece to complement your garden or indoor space. Clay & Materials included. Ages 10 and up

Adults are welcome to join this class, but must register for the session to participate and use clay. Adults who will attend only to supervise do not have to register.

Get ready for gardening! Create custom garden markers for your garden or to give as gifts. We will create sets of vegetable & herb garden markers using stamps and a variety of natural textures to give your garden space  more style. Clay & Materials included. Ages 10 and up

Instructor: MSS Staff

Location: Clay Studio

Enjoy some creative time in the studio in a 3-day wheel workshop! This class will focus on the fundamentals of making pottery on the wheel, from creating the form to putting some finishing touches on pieces. Students will be able to paint and decorate their work with colored slips, and a staff member will glaze and fire pieces. Anyone who already knows the basics of the wheel may continue at their own pace. This is a great class to take with family members or friends. Clay & materials provided/All levels/Ages 8 and up.

Get your hands in some clay while creating custom pottery pieces or sculpture using textures,  tools, stamps,  and colored slips. Instructors will guide students through making a specific project, but students are welcome to get creative with their own ideas while learning some key hand building techniques. This is a great class to take with family members or friends. Clay & materials providedAll levels/Ages 5 and up.

Each class will introduce a project that teaches students various techniques used in pottery making, as well as one that triggers the imagination. Students can choose to make the project or work on their own idea. Guidance and skills will be given to bring their work to a successful finish. Fun is always in the mix! Ages 4 1/2-Adult

Adults are welcome to join this class, but must register for the session to participate and use clay. Adults who will attend only to supervise do not have to register.

Tuesday Multi-Age Wheel

Do you like cups, bowls or making things to use? Then join us for mud play and wheel throwing skills. We will learn how to throw a pot on the wheel and decorate them with colored slips, carving or adding handles. In this class the studio assistants will take care of the glazing process. Just come and enjoy playing with clay and by the end of the session you’ll have pieces to keep for a lifetime. Ages 8 to adult.

Adults are welcome to join this class, but must register for the session to participate and use clay. Adults who will attend only to supervise do not have to register.

After School Art – Paint What You Love!

Instructor: Carrie Ade

In this three week after school class, children will explore and experiment with the exciting range of acrylics while they paint what they love! Students will go more in depth each week as they learn technique, brushwork, color blending, elements of composition, and learn about expressing their interests through different genres of art. This class encourages creativity and painting subjects that each student feels connected to while they gain an understanding of what it means to paint with one’s own voice. Each week students will be led through different projects as they gain confidence and skills with paint and most importantly have fun expressing themselves with this vibrant and versatile medium.

Jump Into Oil Painting!

Instructor: Katalin Tolgyesi 
Monday-Wednesday 9:30AM-11:30PM
Tuition: $130
Location: Marbleworks

 

This is a 3-day painting workshop especially for teens! Students will work with artist and instructor Katalin Tolgyesi as they dive into mastering portraiture through the oil paint medium! Students will choose reference photos, transfer outlines to canvas, block in the values, and study the lighting in the reference. Key elements will be covered in learning to mix values, tones, highlights, then how to add subtle value and color variations to make a portrait or any subject come to life.

Katalin will guide students through overcoming some of the most common mistakes made by beginner painters and break down the process of completing a work into easy-to-understand phases. Students will leave with a finished artwork, an understanding of the oil painting process, and specific skills they can transfer to future projects. All levels/Ages 13-17

Aug 5-7  REGISTER>

All of our classes are suitable for beginners and more experienced artists. There are two comfortable studio spaces at the main building and an offsite painting studio. We encourage all students to go at their own pace in a relaxed environment. It is best to wear clothes that you can get dirty for Kids Classes!

Gift Certificates: Gift certificates are available to purchase. To use a gift certificate, please get in touch. We can tailor your gift to suit you.  

Open Studio is for currently enrolled art, clay students, and monthly independent study. Independent Study students are invited to sign up on a monthly basis. Register with the school for a monthly fee of $100.00/month.

Checks should be made out to the Middlebury Studio School and mailed or delivered to the Middlebury Studio School, 2377 Rte. 7, Middlebury, VT 05753. Please pay promptly to guarantee your space.

Refund Policy: No refunds given for student cancellations less than 7 days from start of class.
